Adrian Mole Cover 2

I need to re-read Adrian Mole to get a full understanding of the novel but for now this short article from the guardian gave me an reminder of the tone of the book and issues that the boom tackles. From what I can tell the novel is funny but tackles some of the issues teenagers face while growing up at what is a hugely significant time of their lives. As teenagers we start to discover who we really are, making mistakes and pushing boundaries, it is also the first time we encounter lots of things for the first time, a first step into becoming an adult. it may be for that reason that people identify so much with the book and read it again and again as they get older. we associate certain things with specific times in our lives like music or fashion. I think for many people this book takes them back to that time and they can see their own experiences within it. The novels narrative is made more accessible by the humour Sue Townsend uses throughout and will no doubt have helped people through a challenging time of their lives. All of these elements mean I have a lot to work with when thinking about the book cover, I will need to rough out lots of ideas and filter through them to find which works best, I will need to be careful not to try and cram too much into the illustrations. I highlighted a few words from the article that sum up some of the stages of emotion the main character goes through that could be useful, jealousy, frustration and love.
Times have changed for teenagers and it could be interesting to try and bring the cover up to date with how it is to be a teenager in 2016.
